	StatementCrossroads is a participatory public art installation on view at the Boston City Hall Mezzanine Gallery through May 8, 2026, presented as part of the Mayor’s Office of Arts &#38;amp; Culture program. Located at the civic heart of the city, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a space of seasonal and symbolic transition, where past, present, and future converge. Crossroads is composed of 16 canvases and a projection event. Through a subtle gradient of color, shifting from beige to green, a quiet shift in tone mirrors the progression from winter to spring, symbolizing the collective journey of Bostonians as they move from dormancy toward renewal.

	“How do you move through the city?”
CROSSROADS is an exhibition by artists Yujin Cao&#38;nbsp; and Wei Wu that invites Boston residents to share a portrait and a few words about movement — from winter into spring. You don’t need to be a runner. Movement can be fast or slow, daily or occasional, intentional or ordinary.
Selected submissions will be artistically interpreted and become part of a collective portrait of Boston, presented through a video projection at the exhibition’s reception at the Boston City Hall Galleries.

	Projection Night
	At the Mezzanine Gallery, Crossroads, a public installation by artists Wei Wu and Yujin Cao, remains on view through May 8, extending the conversation beyond race day and into the rhythms that shape the city year-round. First activated during a one-night projection event on April 16, the project gathers portraits and written reflections from residents across Greater Boston, asking a simple question: how do you move through the city?

The answers — ranging from daily commutes and caregiving routines to long-distance running and late-night work — are presented as projected images and texts that appear across the gallery space. Rather than emphasizing singular achievement, the work foregrounds accumulation: the repetition of ordinary movement as a defining force in civic life.

That framing takes on additional resonance in the days following the marathon. While the race foregrounds peak endurance, Crossroads turns attention to what persists after the crowds disperse — the quieter, continuous motion that sustains the city.


	During the April 16 event, Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967, attended and contributed to the project’s open call. Among the participants were a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing and individuals recovering from cancer, many of whom described movement not as performance, but as a means of rebuilding — a daily practice of persistence, motivation, and renewal. “The project is about recognizing that movement is shared,” Wu said. “Not only in moments of breakthrough, but in the ongoing effort of living, adapting, and continuing.”
The installation’s visual language extends beyond the gallery. On the night of the projection event, Boston City Hall and the surrounding plaza were illuminated in green, echoing the project’s palette and linking the work to the broader civic landscape.Supported by the Boston Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, with projection collaboration by ILLUMINUS, Crossroads positions the city itself as both subject and medium.
As winter recedes and spring takes hold, the work reads as a reflection of Boston’s enduring character — a city that continues to move forward through change, through difficulty, and through the accumulation of everyday effort. In this sense, Crossroads stands as both tribute and record: an acknowledgment of a collective resilience shaped not by a single event, but by the sustained movement of its people.

						Maelstrom explores navigating today's data overload in the form of an audio-visual installation
and an ever-evolving spatial instrument. It examines the impact of immersive technology on
perception and memory, offering a novel approach to managing information through pattern
recognition.

						
'Maelstrom' presents a journey through the symbiotic relationship between humans and the
environment, with a groundbreaking real-time audio-visual interactive interface. This piece
reflects on the prevailing overflow of data and technology that shapes our information
ecosystem and the sensory overload imposed on humanity. It delves into the impact of
"immersive" information environments and generative technologies on our cognition: within
today's data ecosystem, how do immersive experiences and generative technologies influence
our capacity to process information? How do we filter pertinent information, discern the
operational patterns of our surroundings, and find a way amidst the tumult of information flows?

						How can we perceive patterns in otherwise seemingly chaotic and unpredictable streams of
activity as a means of not only surviving but also embracing the inevitable interdependence of
an unpredictable future? 
Marshall McLuhan recognized parallels of today to Edgar Allan Poe's
novel "A Descent into the Maelstrom." In this short story, a sailor becomes so absorbed in
thought that he is caught in a maelstrom. Realizing he cannot row his boat out of the situation,
he must observe the objects within the maelstrom and grab onto the recurring ones as a means
of escape. The lesson: only through pattern recognition can we cope with information overload.
This vortex embodies the challenges of our information age today, and the exhibit replicates the
process of "detachment" through information overload, yet it possesses cyclical patterns in time.
Through such sensory patterns, collective memories and habits become an inheritable feature
of the environment, offering a way out of the maelstrom.

	Commissioned by SUSAS (Shanghai Urban Space Art Season), this audio-visual installation,
developed in Unreal Engine and utilizing Dolby Atmos spatial audio technology, uses 7.1
surround sound and generative projection, empowering the audience to create their own unique
responsive spatial auditory experience by shifting the original map and soundscape of
Shanghai. It explores the concept of "information ecology" and perceptive memories. The
installation plunges visitors into a sensory vortex, providing an innovative guided experience. It
helps us embrace the overwhelming forces of data today to bridge the gap between evolution
and technology and between technology and humanity.

	
The entire creative team behind "Maelstrom" boasts an educational background in architecture
while venturing into various fields, including interactive design, mixed reality, sound art, and
media art. At the intersection of cultures and fields, Maelstrom presents a new perspective on
spatial computing and sensory augmentation.

	Digital Experience Design - flipping brand title AR filters I reimagined the digital photo experience for the Michelin + Basil Hayden National Tour with a custom Instagram AR filter. This filter transforms traditional commemorative photos into dynamic and interactive visuals. When users take a photo with the filter, the brand's header comes to life as animated motion graphics, featuring vibrant flowers, flipping brand titles, and engaging slogans.

The result is a playful and memorable enhancement to the typical "check-in" photo, offering an elevated, fun, and shareable digital moment that resonates with the brand's creative and celebratory spirit.

	Memorial of Forgotten Casualties is a place-based immersive experience designed to empower marginalized and estranged city residents and immigrants by providing them a platform for survival, communication, and expression in public spaces. The project uses web-based Augmented Reality technologies to transform famous landmarks into long-lasting underground public memorials and monuments that can only be accessed through secret portals. By highlighting the underrepresented voices of marginalized communities, the project aims to tell stories that have been ignored or forgotten.

Whoever enters the landscape can access the digital landscape via their smartphones' QR codes and create a venue to voice their opinions, discuss and critique decisions, and reclaim their identities and histories connected to specific places. The overlaid digital content will provide a unique and interactive way for marginalized groups to engage with their surroundings. It is an inclusive experience encourages community participation and fosters a sense of belonging.

Located at the Harvard Science Center and facing the iconic Harvard front gate, Tanner Fountain is a privileged spot. To me, the endless rocky structure of the fountain is reminiscent of a cemetery, especially when covered in snow.


	Phrase 1:
On 23 October 2019, the bodies of 39 Vietnamese people — 31 men and 8 women — were found in the trailer of an articulated refrigerator lorry in Grays, Essex, United Kingdom. The trailer had been shipped from the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, to Purfleet, Essex, UK, and the lorry cab and its driver are believed to have originated from Northern Ireland. Investigations are being led by Essex Police, and involve the national authorities of the UK, Belgium, Ireland and Vietnam.

Along with Kelsey Tianyu Wang, I created a series of huddle scuplture projections in the snow, marked as death body from 1 to 39, in memory of the 39 Vietnamese bodies, and all the concealed migrants died in the same situation.


The statues were mapped onto the stones in a curled-up position,
creating a somber representation of tombstones covered in snow during winter.
This metaphor effectively conveys the tragic fate of the frozen dead.&#38;nbsp;

During March 2023, I revisited and developed the project and remade the visual presentation with new tools including Augmented Reality(AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The use of AR creates an immersive and interactive experience that is easily accessible to a broad audience through a smartphone's QR code. This allows for greater engagement and participation from the community, as they can explore and interact with the digital content overlaid with their surroundings.

Digital Starlight Memorial is a digital cemetery for lives lost in tragic or catastrophic events, particularly those whose bodies could not be properly buried, returned, or mourned. Responding to the ways the Internet has transformed death, grief, and collective memory, the project asks whether digital space can become a site of commemoration and shared healing.
The work invites participants to “bury” their loved ones within a virtual constellation system, where each memorial appears as a star-like presence in a larger celestial archive. Through an augmented reality mobile application, visitors can locate these memorials in space and encounter the memories of others who have experienced related loss. A physical interactive device extends the experience through haptic feedback, turning remembrance into a tactile and embodied encounter.
By combining online memorials, augmented reality, and physical sensation, Digital Starlight Memorial transforms mourning into a shared ritual. It proposes a new form of collective memory in which dispersed grief can gather, resonate, and become a space of mutual recognition.
The Internet has created countless possibilities for commemorations dedicated to tragic or catastrophic events and for exercising collective memory, which has not only gradually hidden our physical bodies but is also changing the way we experience the death of those around us. People who died in some extreme events could not be buried well. Meanwhile, their relatives shared collective memories and trauma. Thus, I want to create a digital cemetery that collects the digital "soul". Besides, the digital cemetery could gather the people who have relatives who died in the same event and experienced the same trauma, forming a place that not only communicates but can heal each other.

I will create a website as the main digital platform for the community where people can bury their loved ones in a virtual Constellations system and build them a monument. Along with an  Augmented Reality mobile application mobile application, people can see the exact location of their relatives or friends buried in the constellation and resonate in the community. What's more, they can have an additional physical interaction device. When someone visits a buried person, the interactive device will produce haptic feedback, and people can experience tangible visualizations from the device and comfort from those who have shared trauma. To join the community or merely to experience it, both strains and reinforces the mutuality of the “Collective memory” said to be in this together.

The Mozart album is one's deceased grandfather's possessions. I create a web-based Augmented Reality application to represent the praying process as a daily memorial script.
In this new normal, you can open the mobile phone camera and point it to the memorial items - the album, staring at the phone screen. After a while, based on your setting, some little stars will appear on the screen. When you click on those stars, you can hear a 15 seconds music piece each from the specific Mozart album. When the music pieces end, the stars disappear one by one, and your personal sacred memorial script is finished.

	The album lantern is not only a drawer that stores your memorable items but also emphasizes them and reminds you of your loved ones occasionally.
Connected to Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, the lantern is normally served as a bedside lamp with an LED bulb, and the memorable items can not be viewed. However, when someone visits your loved ones in the virtual memorial space, the LED bulb will change color to remind you and the PDLC switchable electronic adhesive smart glass will turn to clear mode, so that you can see through the lantern to view your memorable items.

	In the scholarly discourse on artificial intelligence, what precisely do we mean to interrogate? Are we referring to an omniscient oracle, providing answers to every conceivable question? A machine that replicates human cognitive functions and behavior with uncanny accuracy? Or is it an inscrutable algorithm shrouded behind a digital advertisement, subtly guiding our choices?
Peeling away the shimmering layers of complexity, we find that artificial intelligence, at its core, is nothing more than a sophisticated mathematical expectation model. This fundamental nature—its propensity for iterative processes, replication, and self-referencing—cleverly cloaks the quintessence of human intelligence, which it aims to emulate.
This play employs a plethora of AI technologies, endeavoring to probe the profound questions surrounding the field. It unflinchingly grapples with the philosophical implications of AI and ultimately draws our attention to the existential human condition in the imminent era of cybernetics.

All experiences converge, pointing to one profound act,
Voicing the words "Who am I?" into the void, abstract.
We cast this query to the mystical forces, technology's gleam,

	What if the public space itself can transform its architecture according to that incoming stream of data instead of by complicated, bureaucratic, top-down political decisions? 
Zakar is a speculative, free-flowing beatnik poetry video exploration on a self-organized AI public space that transforms according to the real-time data input on viral and microscopic populations that inhabits it. The urban touch-less design, the multiple screens measuring temperature and displaying updates of daily cases, were the most prominent transformation of the public realm during the thickest part of the lockdown.
 The pandemic revealed our condition as vectors for transmission, of how microscopic life and information is attached to every trace of movement we make, and how any action has consequences. The next public space is defined by the constant sampling of its microscopic components, how by means of advances in AI supervised recognition and DNA barcoding it now becomes possible to model the bacterial and viral loads that inhabit public spaces alongside us.
 It is perhaps this the only way in which our living environments can respond to the huge levels of complexity disclosed from this microscopic reality.

	Premeditated Glitch utilizes advanced technologies such as body-tracking software, real-time robotic control, and neural networks to create a unique and innovative approach to painting and custom-cast metal sculptures. The system can analyze and reanalyze gesture paths in real-time by simulating, interpreting, optimizing, and co-creating human painting gestures. The robotic arm mimics and optimizes human drawing movements while occasionally providing more efficient drawing techniques to reduce its movement path. However, due to its design constraints, it often creates symmetrical elements on the paper, such as a perfect circle, whenever they make significant turns. Consequently, the artwork contains the replication of the human's bodily motion and the robot's "subjective" consciousness. As such, the two entities collaborated to produce the final piece.
